During your CAT-scan you will be injected with an X-ray contrast fluid. This fluid will leave your body when you urinate. This is also the reason we ask you to drink more after your exam, causing you to discharge the contrast fluid faster.
Environmentally friendly
We try to prevent this contrast fluid from entering the sewage. It is very hard to purify water from these fluids. Therefore we ask you to use urinary bags the first four times when you urinate after the exam. Instead of flushing your urine down the toilet you urinate in the bag. This is a lot better for our environment!
The technician will give you the four bags after your exam.
How to use the urinary bag?
The first four times you have to urinate (after the CAT-scan), you bring the bag with you to the toilet.
Please check the instructions on the package! There's a difference in use for men and women.
Instead of urinating in the toilet, you urinate in the bag. Afterwards the bag may be deposited in the residual waste basket. Do not throw the bag in the toilet!
It might seem uncomfortable, but urinating in this bag is no more time consuming than in the toilet and is just as clean. The urinary bag is lined with small granules, turning your urine into a jelly-like substance. It will not get messy. The bag is also big enough to contain an ample amount of urine.
Disposing the urinary bag through residual waste is less harmful to our environment than flushing your urine down the toilet.
